Concrete overlays
We have the ability to lay what we regard as overlays or toppings. These are use when the existing concrete is not suitable to polish or when our clients wish to have a “more consistent finish” this can either be the consistency in the aggregate exposure or the color and most likely both.



There are three types of overlays we do:

Full Exposure: This consists of the color you choose and the aggregate is fully exposed then finished to either one of three grades

  • Mirror Polish ( The highest shine possible )
  • Gloss Finish ( A slight Sheen finish )
  • Hone Finish ( A Matt finish- NO Shine)

Salt & Pepper: This consists of only slightly exposing the aggregate so only a slight bit of aggregate is on show but still enough to be a slight feature again these are also achievable in three finishes.

  • Mirror Polish ( The highest shine possible )
  • Gloss Finish ( A slight Sheen finish )
  • Hone Finish ( A Matt finish- NO Shine)

Cream: This consist of no aggregate at all at a choice of color available with more becoming available all the time as this type of flooring becomes more popular again 3 finishes available.

  • Mirror Polish ( The highest shine possible )
  • Gloss Finish ( A slight Sheen finish )
  • Hone Finish ( A Matt finish- NO Shine)

Integrated colors or glass, mirror, or marble chips can be added to mix to give desired results.

Our process of creating your floor to a finish of your desire is achievable with a overlay/topping as this gives us the full control of the floor which is not always achievable with existing concrete.

Prep:

  1. Grinding of existing concrete surface for either acceptance of primer or epoxy bonder with sand broadcast.
  2. Wood substrate will need epoxy bonder with sand broadcast and wire lathe installed.

Our Process
Although we like to keep under our hats what we do during the process of our concrete floor refinishing this is a general guide to what happens whether it be a overlay or existing.
1. A process of up to 3 metal diamonds are used
2. A specially formulated concrete densifier and harder is used to make the surface harder
3. Then a series of up to 5 to7 different grit resin bonded diamonds are used to achieve your finish
4. Then we protect it with a special formulated sealer to help protect against staining and to make your maintenance that much easier.

Concrete overlays are much harder than traditional concrete, from 5500-9500 PSI. Average concrete is 3000-4500 PSI.

Concrete overlays can be applied to almost any surface, plywood, tile, stone, etc.

Concrete overlay has less maintenance and more durability that regular concrete due to its higher strength and polymers.
